Pineapple

This towering rock formation has a spiky crown of trees that further accentuates its likeness to its namesake. But it’s the craggy underwater formations offshore that attract the fish, and king salmon in particular.

Rock Pile

Looking like a massive set of building blocks tumbled into the sea, Rock Pile is a jumble of submerged nooks and ledges that serve as habitat not only for king and silver salmon, but also for lingcod and numerous rockfish species.

Hole in the Wall

Freshwater streams through a fissure in this low cliff face and into the waters below. The nutrient-rich spring melt draws plankton that in turn lure a series of ever-larger predators—including a bounty of silver salmon.

Cape Ulitka

A rocky promontory on the northwest corner of Noyes Island, Cape Ulitka is among the first feeding stops for king and silver salmon swarming in from the Pacific en route to their spawning grounds.

Roller Bay

Deepwater species like halibut frequent this confluence of currents and upwellings, where sheltered waters meet inbound waves.

Cathedral Rock

This vertical cliff with its sheer drop to the ocean reveals the region’s ancient volcanic origins. The same forces contoured the rocky underwater topography below, where the fish congregate.

Pirates Cove

Legend has it that this secret cove was once a haven for fish pirates. Hidden behind Cathedral Rock, its calm waters now set a picturesque scene for anglers, nature photographers, and anyone seeking to explore the majesty of Southeast Alaska.
